The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez (Chapter 2)

  • The first thing that interest me was when Gilda gave Bird the wood handled knife she kept since she was a girl at the farmhouse before Bird left that night. It interests me because I would not have thought Gilda would still have the wooden knife after so many years since the incident with the man.

  •   The second was about Gilda’s sexual awakening because I had an idea Gilda would turn out to be a lesbian, but did not really see it coming in the first chapter. The only clue I thought she might be lesbian was when Gilda 1 told Gilda 2 she would stay with Bird and accompany her.

  •   Last thing that interest me was that Eleanor and her family have been living in the bay longer than anyone else. All her family has dies except her and her uncle Alfred. I thought it was interesting because Eleanor does not feel sad about her family she tells Gilda let’s not talk about the old and dying referring to her uncle Alfred, but rather let’s talk the news you bring to us from the uncivilized hinterlands.

Identify 2 of the values that Anthony attributes to Gilda that she should be leaving about and committed to/believe em/ hold precious

  •   Faith
  • Confidence
